DJI Mic 2 – How to Record in 32-Bit Float!

32-Bit Float Recording on the DJI Mic 2 gives you the one of the highest quality audio recordings in a wireless microphone available to date. Putting this function to use can be an absolute game changer for your content and making sure that the audio you record is always usable and securing that your audio is as quality as the video you produce.

32-Bit Float Recording gives you a very broad dynamic range and allows you to boost low audio and tone down clipped audio in order to balance out and capture quality audio on both sides of the spectrum.

The DJI Mic 2 does this by recording a separate track onto the actual microphone itself as a separate 32-bit audio recording. This 32-bit recording can be accessed by plugging in the microphone into your computer and opening the External Drive that pops up on your desktop (if using an Apple Computer).

First and foremost you will have to enable 32-Bit Float Recording on your Microphone. You can enable it by swiping down from the top of the touchscreen to access the settings menu, navigate to “transmitter settings,” then select “32-bit float recording” and toggle it to “on.” (32-bit float recording is only available with the receiver or a connectable DJI Product such as the Action 4, 5 or Pocket).

Once enabled and a video is recorded from your camera a separate 32-bit float recorded audio is created and stored within the transmitter. You can access the file by plugging the transmitter into your computer and opening the external drive of the microphone.

It is good practice to begin each 32-bit float recorded video with an audible cue for syncing your audio to video in post production. For example, I begin each of my video with a clap that I can then sync up the rest of my recording with.

I personally use Final Cut Pro as my editing program, which has a very easy to use syncing function and works perfectly to sync my 32-bit float recording with the original video, giving me the greatest ability to have quality audio regardless of dynamic audio levels within a given video.

Check out the video below from my YouTube Channel for an easy guide on how to set up and use the 32-Bit Float function on your DJI Mic 2!
